How many of you do know what exactly a landing page is? I am sure not many, since most of the people I come across are under the impression that landing page is nothing but the home page of any site. However, home page is not the only landing page but rather just one of the landing pages.

Considering this common misconception among people, I thought it would be a good idea to share some of my knowledge with you, as to what exactly a landing page is and how can we optimize one. To begin with, I would suggest that, landing page is any page that appears whenever a customer clicks on a search-engine result link or on an advertisement. Since, each landing page is important in its own sense, we need to have a clear understanding of each lead page requirements. I have compiled a list of some of the most important writing and designing tips that you can possibly use for developing the landing page.

    • It is easier to grab the attention of the user, if the the place from where he has been directed or the particular ad that he had clicked holds the same heading as the landing page.

    • The architecture of the page should be such that the visitor has convenience in navigating through the page. You need to let your visitors know what exactly they are expected to do once they land on the particular page.

    • One of the most important things is the language used. Remember that your visitors do not have all the time in the world to leisurely go through your page. Thus, you need to be extremely professional in conveying your message and requirement to your visitors. Have clearly stated instructions.

    • As stated earlier, your visitor might be extremely busy and so your goal is to provide them with as much relevant information as you can in that short span of time. For this, your page should be especially free of extraneous material of any kind, as this may mean compromising a prospective customer.

    • In line with this, you also need to remember that the user might just wish to have an overview of your site. In such a case, he might not be interested in reading through the complete write-up and thus, your most important points should essentially be highlighted in the first and last lines of the para.

These are just some of the common points I thought might help you develop your landing pages.
