Affiliate Secrets: Avoiding Factors That Harm Your Business

My constant interaction with small and big businessman alike, has taught me one thing for sure. If you wish to run a successful business program, you first need to have an understanding of the factors that may cause harm to your business, even before you can decide on how to make your business run successfully. Unless you can identify your follies, you cannot work towards improving on those factors.

Thus, whenever someone asks for my advice on starting an affiliate program, the first thing I tell them is to have a knowledge of things they strictly need to avoid. So, I thought I might as well share this secret mantra for a successful affiliate program with you. Of the lot many factors that may possibly affect your affiliate business program, there are a few important ones, that are a complete no no for your business. Here I have a list of some of these factors:

(a)A half-hearted start for your affiliate program: By this I mean that, if you are planning to start an affiliate program with no particular long term aim or strategy for it, then you are just wasting your precious time as well as money. This kind of wrong mindset is not going to take you too far. So, the very first thing you need, is to have a targeted approach towards your affiliate program.

(b)Choosing irrelevant products to promote: This is another common mistake which most newbies frequently commit. Whenever you decide to choose a product to promote to your customers, take care that the product is not only relevant to your site but also has a considerable demand graph. This will ensure that you get a good sale when you divert your traffic towards the merchants site.

(c)Choosing an unproductive market: All your other efforts may seem worthless if you do not choose the right market for your affiliate program. An unproductive market is not going to reap you any profit and it would be a complete waste of your efforts and money, because ultimately your targeted traffic is going to come from this market only.

(d)Inconsistency of efforts: Consistency of actions is one thing that secures the success of your affiliate program. You cannot afford to sit back and relax with merely having a productive market and the right product. Your constant efforts towards improving the productivity of your affiliate program is what will actually earn you desired profits and pave a way for further improvements.

These are just few of the considerations I think every affiliate programmer, especially the newbies should work upon. My personal experience compels me to tell you that if you can successfully work upon these flaws, then you can consider your work half done.

How Can I Create Search Engine Friendly Website?

Quite often I am faced with questions like, “Why doesn’t my site or blog come up in search engine result?” or “What are the search engines looking for in any particular site?”

While I have all along been mentioning about important tips that you may follow to optimize your site, it is also essential that you optimize your site only in such a way, that it is search engine friendly. In simpler terms, there are a few basic necessary standards every search engine looks for in any site. Unless your site or blog can match up to those standards, it cannot be qualified as being search engine friendly. To provide you a better understanding of my point, I have enlisted a few points that you necessarily need to consider, in order to rank high for the search engines.

  1. The very first consideration is to validate your HTML code. Validation essentially means checking the HTML code for errors if any. Though, HTML validation does not account for making your site or blog search engine friendly, it definitely plays a key role in deciding which all portions of your site or blog are to be indexed. So, you see, HTML validation indirectly affects the way your site or blog is being indexed.
  2. For those of you who are unaware of this fact, search engine software is capable of only reading text. Although some of you may not completely agree with me on this as there are search engines like Google that do index videos and images, let me tell you, that in spite of their developed softwares, they are not sophisticated enough to extract all the embedded information from a video or image. For that, you necessarily need to specify content for all such non-text elements. This you can specify in the alt tag of an HTML code. Include descriptions for any videos or flash files that you may have included.
  3. Be very careful about duplicate content on your site or blog. I have come across several sites where multiple URLs all open up to the same page. The problem with this sort of content duplication is that, it becomes difficult for the search engines to decide exactly which pages are of more importance, since every alternate page opens up to the same content. Thus, essentially check that your article may be reached via only a single route and not through multiple URLs.
  4. I have seen several sites who are in the constant habit of using hidden text on their sites. This they do in an attempt to have as many useful keywords as possible on any particular page in order to influence the various search engines. However, I strongly suggest you to keep away from such malpractices as they are not going to reap you any long term benefits.

With the above mentioned points I cannot guarantee you the topmost page rank, but, can definitely assure you a ranking among the first top search pages.

Building High Traffic Website: Essential Tips

In some of my earlier posts I have provided you with tips on how to create an effective landing page. However, let me tell you that just creating an effective landing page is not enough to ensure high viewer response. Rather, it is essential that each and every factor of your complete website is optimized, so that you can ensure recurring traffic.

But, unless and until you are aware of the things you need to know that can stand as obstacles in fetching you good traffic, you cannot possibly work on it. For this, I thought I might prove resourceful in putting some light on the factors you need to consider while building any website. To start with, you may consider the following basic points:

  • One of the most important factors to consider are the keywords. You need to identify the most popularly searched keywords with reference to your site and then build your web page around these keywords. Subscribing to some site which can help you come up with a list of popular keywords can prove to be of help in such cases. Then of course the content too needs to be good.
  • Just like every book has an index that gives an idea about the content of the book, every website must have a sitemap that acts as an index of all the pages included on the site. This ensures that all your pages are being indexed and this holds especially true for those using framed HTML pages on their site.
  • Just like individual pages of a book are of no use unless they have been bound together, the individual pages of the site hold no value unless they have been properly linked through HTML links. This makes the task of web-crawlers much easy.
  • If you wish to have good authoritative sites link back to you, then you not only need to receive awards from sites who administer them, but you also need to administer awards yourself. Only then can you expect to build good links with other relevant sites.
